ASSIGNMENT 2 (QUESTION 3)

“If money were the only criterion by which a child’s welfare can be gauged, then a baby bought for as much as RM40, 000 on the black market would seem set for life. For money- rich but child poor couples, it is a small price to pay to introduce a small life info into their home. The cot is gilded, the blanket monogrammed, the college fund filled to the brim. All that’s wanting is a bun in the oven. And where there is a baby-for-sale racket, money can indeed buy happiness. And after all, why not? (NST, March 3,2013)

  •       Provide at least two (2) premises or two (2) counter arguments for the statement based on your agreement.

a)      Money can buy happiness
The first premise is money can indeed buy happiness. With money, we can buy anything that we want. For example, parents that do not have children, they tend to buy baby even though with high price. They don’t think about the price but what they think is happiness. For parents that want a baby, they don’t care about where they get the baby even they get the baby from black market. They believe that if they have baby, they will get the happiness. Happiness is when we get all what we want. But there are some parents that are willing to sell their children as they want to get the money.
b)      Black market is not the issue for the wealthy.
Usually they are from the poor family where they are no longer can support their family and lastly they have no choice and have to sell their children. For them kids is not that matter as long as they get the money, they willing to give their children to another people. As for the above statement, it said that people willing to buy baby in black market. This statement show that for those who come from rich family, they will do anything as long as they get the happiness. It means that baby bought in the black market is no longer the problem for the rich people in order to get the baby in easy way.

ASSIGNMENT 2 (QUESTION 5)

You have almost completed this semester, so, how do you view Critical Literacy now? If you have any comments and suggestions, please do as it helps for the betterment of the course as a whole.

What I can say is Critical Literacy is required me to think a lot and also think out of the box. There are lots of thing that I can learn from this subject and I found interesting in learning this subject. It is quite tough and to finish up the assignment is take a long time. So it is very dangerous for those who always doing assignment in last minute. As for me, it is very lucky for those who has been teach by Mr Kamaraziz as he will lead us from the beginning until the end. Other than that, I think that it is very good for Mr Kamaraziz to use the video that he has prepared for us on how to write assignment one as it is very helpful for us and it is very clear and easy to understand compared to reading the book. I think it is very suitable for him to share it with the next semester student as it will helped a lot.

ASSIGNMENT 2 (QUESTION 4)

The body is the greatest possession, the mind is the greatest treasure and the spirit is the greatest companion.

  •      How do you view above statement
The body is the greatest possession. Have a healthy body is one of the most important gifts from God to us and we as a human should appreciate it and take care of it.  Having a healthy body make us easy to do work in daily of our life. If we sick, how do you think we going to do work? Cannot right. So it is very important for us to always take care about our self so that we can avoid from sickness.
The mind is the greatest treasure. As we all know, brain is the important part in our body. With brain we can think what is good and what is bad. So that we need to think before do anything in our life so that it will not give a negative effect to our life. What we do in our life of course we will mind it and it is important for us. Same goes to study, we are required to mind every single thing that we learn so that it will helped us either in school or in our job.

Spirit is the greatest companion, with spirit it can encourage us to do something better than we expect. For example, if you are involve in sport, you need supporter to vote on you and because of that you will get the spirit to do better and become the winner. Same goes to study, you need to have the spirit so that you will be interested in study and get the best result in exam.

ASSIGNMENT 2 (QUESTION 2)

Stereotyping is exaggerated generalizations associated with a categorizing system, they go beyond the facts at hand and make claims that usually have no valid basic. However, it is also something that most people find difficult to avoid from doing. What do you think?

I am very agree with that statement. It is very difficult for us to avoid from being stereotype because it is normal for us as human being to judge people based on what we see without know the truth. Stereotyping occurs when we offer a hasty generalization about a group based on the judgement an individual from the group. We categorized other people into groups based on the variety of criteria such as sex, race, sexual orientation, occupation, region of the country, or physical abilities. Next, we infer that everyone within that group have the same characteristics.
For example, we might conclude that all lesbians are masculine, that people on the East Coast are fast-talking, or that older people are conservative. Sometimes it is not good to have stereotyping because we will judge people based on what we see, what we want to see and sometimes based on our past memories. Not all of stereotypes are negatives, there is also positive such as Asians and Indians are brilliant at math, engineering and science. Stereotypes can lead to prejudice which not good for us and cannot give any benefit at all. So it is important for us to have positive thinking as it can avoid from stereotypes and prejudice.

ASSIGNMENT 2 (QUESTION 1)

You heard comments and maybe grievances from your seniors about Critical Literacy, but what is/are your expectation (s) or hope for this subject as you are just started.

Actually to enter for semester four is quiet nervous for me because I know that it will be more challenging compared to the previous semester. I have heard lots of comment from senior student said that it is difficult to survive in semester four but it is no choice for me either to proceed or stop in semester three. What I can say is I am very scared to be in this semester as the subject is quiet tough and class is packed.

For the first time heard that in semester four will have a Critical Literacy subject, I expect it is a tough subject as it required us for critical thinking and I am not ready for that. But what I hope in this particular subject is, I will not repeat for this subject and can proceed to the last semester with successfully. For the first class, I am very nervous but after Mr Kamaraziz have explain a little bit about this subject, it make me feel less of nervous. I have learned a lot from Mr Kamaraziz about this subject and I hope that I can apply it in my studies and in my life. For this subject, it is required me to think a lot with a critical thinking.

MOVIE REVIEW - ALONE

1. Identify the character that you believe played significant role influencing the plot and justify why and how?

For me, the character that I believe played significant role influencing the plot in this movie is Ploy. In this movie shown that there are twins named Pim and Ploy that are fall in love with a man named Wee. This is happen when they are meet in hospital and Wee start to love Pim and this make Ploy jealous. One day, when Wee is recover from sick and went to go back to home, he want to meet with Pim for the last time. He keep calling for Pim because Pims’ room is in second floor and he keep waiting for Pim to come and see him. As much as Pim wants to see Wee, Ploy won't get out of bed. Pim begs and cries but Ploy stays in her jealous rage. Start from that, Pim make a decision to be separated from Ploy. An unpredictable thing has happen when Ploy willing to killed her twin, Pim. After that, Ploy disguise as Pim in order to get closed with Wee. The audience might thought that Ploy is the real Pim from the beginning movie until the end of the movie.

2. What do you think is the main topic/issue highlighted in this movie? And what is the writer belief?

I think that the main topic/issue in this movie that highlighted in this movie is jealousy. We can see that Ploy is very jealous towards her twin, Pim. She don’t like to see her twin happy with Wee she also willing to kill her own sister and disguise as Pim after her sister died. She willing to do so in order to make sure that she can be with Wee. She also hated her mother because her mother know the truth and she also killed her mother because she don’t want her mother tell the truth story to Wee. she know that when Wee get know the truth, Wee will hate her and leave her alone. From this I can say that writer belief that can destroy everything. It can hurt people also can killed people.

      3. Justify what you believe about the above topic/issue.

In my opinion, I believe that jealousy is not good for us. As human being, it normal to have jealous feeling but we also have to know how to handle it. If we don’t know how to handle it, it can be worst. We can see in this movie, Ploy willing to kill her own mother and sister as she think that all of they can ruin her love towards Wee. Jealous can change from good to bad. So we need to know to handle it and try to reduced that feeling.

4. What is your opinion of the movie?

In my opinion, this is the best horror movie that I have seen because there are lots of part that can make audience shocked. Besides that, audience can’t guessing on what happen next. This movie also teach me that we need to know how to compare what is bad and what is good. It also teach me on how control our emotional and think before doing something so that we don’t regret on what we have doing.
